Winter Hiking – High Tatras and Slovak Paradise

Experience the two most beautiful mountain ranges of Slovakia in winter. Come and hike in the High Tatras and the Slovak Paradise! Do not miss this unique experience.
During the hikes  we will also have a chance to taste some of the local mountain dishes or the Tatra tea – but beware, this does not come in a cup, but in a shot glass.

Places you will see



Day 1: Arrival to the High Tatras

Individual arrival to the High Tatras, accommodation. Transfer from the Poprad airport/Train station can be arranged on request.
Meeting with your guide in the evening.

Day 2: Hiking to Sliezsky Dom, along Tatranska Magistrala to Batizovske Lake

A short transfer to Tatranska Polianka were we start the hike to Sliezsky dom – the highest situated hotel in Slovakia. From there we’ll hike along the Tatranska magistrala (the High Tatras hiking highway) to Batizovske lake and then down to Vysne Hagy.

Day 3: Hiking from Stary Smokovec to Zbojnicka Hut

Hike from Stary Smokovec to Zbojnicka hut and back.
Along the way you can enjoy stunning views of  both Slovakia’s largest mountain ranges: the High and the Low Tatras and the valley below. In the hut you can pick some of the traditional mountain dishes or have a pint of beer.

Day 4: Hiking from Hrebienok to Skalnate Pleso

Today’s walk will start again in Stary Smokovec, only this time we’ll set off to Hrebienok. From there you will continue to Zamkovskeho hut and further to the lake Skalnate pleso – hopefully the weather will be on our side and will allow us the view of the surrounding summits and the observatory on the Lomnicky peak above the lake. From Skalnate Pleso we will  just walk down to Tatranska Lomnica.

Later in the afternoon we will change the scenery and head to the Slovak Paradise.

Day 5: Hiking in the Slovak Paradise - Sucha Bela Gorge

Today is our  first hiking day in the Slovak Paradise – quite a literal paradise for hikers.
In the morning we will  start our hike in the Sucha Bela gorge – one of the most famous gorges in the Slovak Paradise.  Even though it might look tricky, its natural beauty is worth every step. Once we  get out and above the gorge, the way back to Podlesok will be much easier.

Day 6: Hiking in the Slovak Paradise - from Podlesok to the Gorge Piecky

Another stunning hiking trail is waiting for you today – the gorge Piecky. Starting again in Podlesok, we will reach the opening of the gorge after about 4 km. We will walk up the gorge and return to Podlesok.

Day 7: Hiking in the Slovak Paradise - the Hornad Gorge to Klastorisko

Today we will conquer the most famous gorge of the Slovak Paradise – the Hornad gorge.  Third time’s the charm; we will start from Podlesok one last time. The trail  will lead us up the Klastorska gorge to Klastorisko – a place on the top of a hill hiding the ruins of the Carthusian monastery built in the 13th century. Walking down will then be shorter and considerably easier.
Distance: 11.7 km, 500 m up/down, time: 4-4.5 hours

Day 8: Departure

Biding our farewell to the Slovak mountains, we’ll transfer to  Poprad from where you will make your way home.

In general the expected temperatures might be about 0°C or lower. We recommend to bring proper winter hiking clothes and shoes. 

Health requirements

The tour is rather demanding in terms of physical requirements and health conditions. Each hiking day has its description, please take into account.


The country  – Slovakia is part of the Schengen zone. It means you only need single visa (if needed at all) to enter the Schengen zone. It is responsibility of the customer to find out if he/she needs visa to enter Schengen zone. Should you need any help, pls. feel free to contact us.

Payment Information

The price of the tour is payable in one instalment to be paid latest 60 days prior to the departure. This instalment also includes the Non-refundable Booking Fee in the amount of 180 EUR. Further information on payment and cancellation conditions can be found in the General Terms and Conditions


It is necessary to bring crampons and hiking poles with you.
