Hiking in Three Mountain Ranges
06 July – 13 July 2024
The High Tatras, the Low Tatras and the Slovak Paradise – these three most admirable mountain ranges hide a wide variety of hiking paths and views so breathtaking that you’ll plan your next trip right on the spot!
Hiking in Slovakia is also about the mountain huts one visits during their hikes. There you can taste the local food and drinks – we recommend the TATRATEA (beware, it comes in a shot glass, not a cup!).

We will start our hike just under the summit of Chopok – the second highest peak in the Low Tatras. We will reach the Chopok summit and from there follow the Low Tatra ridge. The whole hike offers beautiful views of the valleys below on both sides and the High Tatras, too. We will descend to the mountain pass Certovica and hop on the bus to the High Tatras.

Day 3: Hiking to the Rysy Mountain
Our first hiking goal in the High Tatras will be the famous peak Rysy today. Walking along a rocky path we will reach the big rocks below the Rysy hut. Be sure to hold on to the chains when we climb up the hill! Once we get to the hut, a glass of cold draught beer will quench our thirst. The last leg of the trail will be a bit easier and the views from the top are worth all the effort. From there we’ll descend down to the valley and get on a train to our hotel.
Distance: 21 km, up/down 1456 m, 9-10 hours
Accommodation: High Tatras
Day 4: Hiking from Strbske Pleso to Bystra Lavka
Today’s hiking will be a bit easier, but not less satisfying. From Strbske Pleso we will walk up to the ridge to the mountain pass Bystra Lavka. The scrambling is supported with a few chains and rewards us with stunning views of the surrounding area.
Walking down we will stop at the mountain hut Chata pod Soliskom (Hut under Solisko). From there, Strbske Pleso is just one big leap down.
Distance: 18,5 km, up/down 1139 m, 7,5-8 hours
Accommodation: High Tatras
Day 5: Hiking from Tatranska Lomnica to Chata pri Zelenom Plese (Hut at the Green Lake)
We will take a local train to Tatranska Lomnica. Our hike starts from Lomnica, continues to the glacial lake Skalnate Pleso (alternative – you can take a lift to Skalnate Pleso – on foot 915 m up, approximately 3 hours) , then along the Tatranska magistrala to the peak Velka Svistovka and down to the hut Chata pri Zelenom plese (Hut at the Green lake). From there we will cross the forest and reach the end of the hiking path at Biela Voda. Transfer to the Slovak Paradise.
Distance: 21.1 km, up 1335 m, down 1300 m, 8,5-10 hours
Accommodation: Slovak Paradise
Day 6: Hiking in Slovak Paradise - Klastorska Roklina
Our first hike in the Slovak Paradise will bring us to its monumental secret – the ruins of an ancient monastery from the 13th century. First, we walk along the gorge of the river Hornad and then we will enter one of the most fabulous canyons in Slovakia – Klastorska roklina (Monastery gorge). It is only 1,5 km long but it hides a dense network of waterfalls. There we will have to climb up several ladders. At the upper end of the gorge lie the monastery ruins and a snack bar where you can buy something to drink and eat. The way down will be shorter and easier.
Distance: 15.1 km, up/down 820 m, 6,5-7,5 hours.
Accommodation: Slovak Paradise
Day 7: Hiking in Slovak Paradise - the Great Waterfall
Today will be a waterfall day. The Sucha Bela gorge is one of the most famous gorges in the Slovak Paradise – and one of the most beautiful, too. As we climb up the gorge we will pass several stunning waterfalls. From Sucha Bela we will continue to Klastorisko again (the monastery site). After a short break here we will set off for the waterfall Obrovsky vodopad (Huge waterfall). Later we will head back to Klastorisko and walk the same way down as the previous day.
Distance: 14.4 km, up/down 630 m, 6-7 hours
