Fujara - UNESCO List of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity

Fujara is a typical shepard`s flute known only in Slovakia. You will not find it at any other place in the world. The regions of Polana and Gemer in central Slovakia are considered to be the place of origin. This long and masive pipe (it can be as long as 1.8m) is usually made of elder tree. It has a charakteristic melancholic tone. Often it can be decorated with ornaments.

It was inscribed into the UNESCO List of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2005.

The strongest and most magnificent tone comes from Fujara Trombita which can be up to 6 m long. Mostly used as a signalig instrument  for shepards on the pastures in the mountains.
