Old city of Zamość

Zamość was founded in the 16. century by the chancellor Jan Zamoysky.   Zamość is a perfect example of late Renaissance town, modelled on Italian theories of the "ideal city" and built by the architect born in Padua, Italy.

The main distinguishing features of the Old Town have been well preserved since its establishment. It includes the regular Great Market Square of 100 x 100 meters with the splendid Town hall and so-called Armenian houses.
