Early Christian Necropolis of Pécs (Sopianae)

These tombs, former used as underground burial chambers with memorial chapel above the ground. These remarkable series of decorated tombs were constructed in the 4th century A.D. in the cemetery of Roman provincial town, which stood on place of modern Pécs. They are very important structurally and architecturally. The tombs are really significant also in artistic ways, since they are pretty rich decorated with murals of extraordinary quality showing Christian themes.
